city makret buildingThe Roanoke Valley’s retail market extends about an hour’s drive, and includes the college communities of Blacksburg and Lexington, as well as Smith Mountain Lake. Some 600,000 people live within the area. Because the Roanoke area serves as a retail draw, per household retail sales are higher than the national average — $44,920, according to a recent Survey of Buying Power report. That’s more than 12 percent higher than the national average.

The region offers a wide variety of retail opportunities, from large regional malls and neighborhood shopping centers to charming destinations like the Historic Roanoke City Market, Grandin Village and downtown Salem.
