Renovation Work Nears Completion at the Locker Room Lofts

The transformation of the former Central Branch YMCA into the Locker Room Lofts is well under way in downtown Roanoke. Today, developer Faisal Khan revealed the progress on his latest adaptive reuse project with a private walk-through for news media and community leaders.

The Locker Room Lofts blends historic elements of the original 1950s building with contemporary design to create an industrial, urban vibe. The renovated building will be made up of more than 50 units, including studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments, live-work spaces, and one dedicated commercial space. Unlike any other downtown residential community, the Locker Room Lofts also provides 15,000 square feet of historically preserved athletic facilities. Residents will have free access to an indoor swimming pool, basketball and racquetball courts, an elevated running track and a fitness center. Other amenities include a rooftop deck, enclosed courtyard, pet green space, community vegetable garden and personal storage units. Onsite parking will be provided on a first-come, first-reserved basis.

“This project is truly one-of-a-kind. The number of athletic amenities that this building offers completely sets us apart from any other downtown project. In fact, in the past few weeks, there has been tremendous interest in leasing before our official kickoff,” said Khan.

More information on the Locker Room Lofts is available at www.thelockerroomlofts.com. Rents start at a monthly rate of $400, and leasing is now available through Waldvogel Commercial Properties. A late summer opening is anticipated.
