Urban Living Community

view of downtown form hotel roanokeThe Roanoke Valley is the largest metro area in western Virginia. More than 312,300 people call the Valley home, with more than double that living within about an hour’s commute. The metro area consists of four counties, two independent cities and several towns and offers urban amenities, small town charm and an unparalleled outdoor experience.

The Valley is a regional center for healthcare, shopping, arts and culture, transportation and employment.

And the heart of the Valley is downtown Roanoke. It’s a neighborhood where you’re within walking distance of live music, more than 50 restaurants, boutiques, museums and a historic, year-round farmer’s market. Maybe even your job.

Some 1,000 people call Downtown Roanoke home – up about 1,000 percent over the past 15 years. In that time, the 67-square-block center of the Roanoke Region has become a 24-hour neighborhood.

Downtown Roanoke is bounded on the north by the historic Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center and the Roanoke Higher Ed Center, which brings 12 colleges and universities under one roof. Free trolley service runs to and from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute and Carilion Clinic campus south of downtown. Growth to the west has been spurred by an expanding YMCA, The Jefferson Center performance hall and more housing and restaurants.
